Varsity Blues Women's Basketball
RECRUITS
for 2010-2011
Athletes
who commit to the Varsity Blues will be eligible to
compete provided that they are academically admissible
to the University of Toronto and have applied through
the Ontario University Application Centre.
Kristina
Menton, a 5'10"
perimeter player from Manotick outside of Ottawa. She
attended St Mark HS where she
led the Senior basketball team to the '09 City Championship.
Kristina was selected as the basketball and touch football
team MVP and she was named the school Athlete of the
Year as well as the recipient of the Christian Athlete
Award and St Mark Award of Excellence. Kristina was
named as a two- time City All-Star for
basketball and she was a starter on the Ottawa Shock
OBA Club team that was ranked as the #6 Junior team
in the province.
Kristina
will be studying Engineering Science.
Jaine Taylor,
a 6'2" post player from Vancouver.
Jaine attended Carson Graham High School
and played on the senior basketball team since grade
10. Carson went to the provincial championships twice
during her career.
In grade 10 she played for the regional basketball team
and last summer she played on the the Simon Fraser Junior
Club Team and her game improved immensely. In her grade
12 year she was selected to participate in the Basketball
BC Center of Performance and was also selected as a
North Shore Allstar for the top basketball league in
North/West Vancouver.
Jaine has also played Volleyball during
her High School Career and received an honourable mention
in the North Shore Allstars for her grade 12 year. Jaine
was also a rep level hockey player from Grade 3 until
the beginning of Grade 12 going to provincials twice
in her bantam and midget years. As well, she played
in-line hockey for 7 of those years. Although passionate
about hockey she chose to commit herself completely
to her other passion, basketball, in her grade 12 year.
Jaine
will be studying in the Arts Faculty at UofT.
Julie
Longauer,
a 6' forward, from All Saints Catholic Secondary School
in Whitby.
Julie
was a 4 year Honour Roll student and school Junior Athlete
of the Year. She was the basketball team Captain as
a senior and won the Coach's Award as both a Jr and
Sr. She also holds nine school records for track and
field. Julie was selected by the Toronto Star as a Durham
Region basketball All-Star
and
she participated on MDP and JDP Ontario Basketball Regional
teams. She has played for 3 years on the OBA Division
1 Durham Eclipse Club team at the Junior level.With
the Eclipse, she has played in an international tournament
in Vienna and this summer will travel to Germany.
Last
Fall Julie spent a month in Italy modelling. She will
be studying Humanities as a New College student.


Jill Stratton,
a 5'10" guard, from Etobicoke Collegiate in Toronto.
She
was the school Junior Athlete of the Year and competed
at OFSAA in Cross Country and Track. Jill played on
the Sr basketball team from Gr 9 and finished her highschool
career as a team captain. She was also a captain of
her OBA Club team, Etobicoke Storm, which she led to
the Division 1 Provincial Championships and this year
she is playing for the Durham Eclipse, a Division 1
Junior team in OBA competitions.
Jill
has been a tournament All Star and MVP many times and
has been on the school honour roll every year. She will
study Physical Education and Health.


Liane
Bailey, a 6' forward,
from CEGEP Vanier College in Montreal.
She
played on the Quebec Provincial U15 team, Dawson U16
team and the Sun Youth
U17 team before moving on to Vanier. She was also invited
to attend the Basketball Canada Centre
for Performance development camp for Quebec.
Last year Liane was a starter on the Vanier Provincial
AAA third place team. This year she led the team to
another third place finish at Provincials scoring 20
points as Player of the Game in the semi-final.
After
receiving an Academic Entrance Scholarship, Liane made
the Deans Honour Roll and had the top average in the
Health Science Program. She has applied to study Biochemistry
and plans to move on to Sports Medicine or Science Research
in the future.

Rachael
Sider, 5'10" guard/forward,
from New Westminster S.S., Vancouver.
She
was a three-time team captain for her high school basketball
team that was the 2008 Provincial Junior silver medalist
and she was a Provincial Championship First Team All
Star. Rachael's basketball background includes selection
for the Lower Mainland Regional Training Centre and
the BC Centre for Performance. This year she led her
highschool team to 6th place at AAA Provincials where
she scored 64 points and pulled down 37 boards while
shooting 9 for 16 from the three point line.
As
a student she was on the Honour Roll throughout highschool.
Rachael has applied to study Humanities.

Amanda
Lauzon, a 6' forward
from Niagara Falls transfers to join the Blues after
playing 1 year at Brock. Amanda attended AN Myer Secondary
School where she was a four-sport athlete playing basketball,
volleyball, soccer and badminton... In her senior year
averaged 24.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per game... In
2008 she helped AN Myer capture Zone 3 basketball and
volleyball championships... was named Basketball MVP,
Volleyball MVP, and the AN Myer Female Athlete of the
Year in 2007-2008. Amanda played OBA Club bball with
the St. Catharines Rebels capturing back-to-back Division
2 OBA Provincial Championship titles in 2006 and 2007.
In 2007 she was named the Provincial Championship MVP
and also received the Harold Biggar Award for best Female
Basketball Player in Niagara Falls in 2008. Other accolades
include three-time Regional HS All-Star Game Participant,
2008 Welland Tribune Second Team All-Star and 2006 AN
Myer Junior Athlete of the Year.
In
'09, Amanda was an Assistant Coach with the Basketball
Ontario Girls BDP Niagara team and in '10 she was
the Head Coach of the Girls MDP Central East
Elite Development Basketball Program.Currently
Amanda is finishing her certification for Level 3 coaching
in the NCCP Program and she will be a CP assistant coach
for the Toronto area pod this year.
